Bike Business Drives Shimano’s Profitability

OSAKA, Japan – Shimano’s bike business is not only its main activity, it is also the most profitable for the Japan based company. In the third quarter of this year, the bike business generated 78.5% of the total turn-over while the fishing department was responsible for 20% of the sales.

During the first nine months of 2008 Shimano’s bike business increased in terms of the turn-over by 19.2% to JPY 133,498 million (€ 1,021 million) compared to the same period in 2007. The operating income in this period went up by 27.2% from JPY 19,193 million (€ 146 million) to JPY 25,550 million (€ 195 million).

Shimano’s fishing tackle business showed negative results during the three quarters of this year. Turn-over dropped 7.1% and the operating income decreased by 12.8%.
