Shanghai: THE e-Bike Show

SHANGHAI, China – Next Monday the Shanghai International Exhibition Center will open its doors for the China International Bicycle & Motor Fair, better known as the Shanghai Show. This major Asian event has evolved into a show that provides companies the best entrance to the Chinese market.

Next to that the organizers have managed to put ‘Shanghai’ on the map as THE e-Bike show to visit. Although the number of e-Bike related exhibitors is not that high anymore as it used to be, the show is presenting itself more and more as a fully-fledged bicycle fair.

The Shanghai show has been growing year after year. The organizers are expecting more than 100,000 visitors next week. The number of exhibitors is approximately the same as last year, with a little over 1,000 stands. It is not yet clear how many e-Bike exhibitors will be on the show this year.

The list of well known names exhibiting in Shanghai is getting longer every year, reflecting changes in the market. Will this year’s edition be the same? In the past few years, IBDs as well as agents and distributors have come to China. They brought high-end bicycle products and after-market service to their Chinese customers. At the moment the number of bike stores and shops all over China who sell expensive bikes and parts is rising quickly. Cycling for fun is becoming popular and hundreds of bike clubs are organizing bike rides across the country. Only a few brands such Shimano, Giant, Merida, Trek and Specialized have built their own distribution channel.
