Until now, daytime running lights were only common on motorized vehicles, but not on bicycles. German manufacturer and bicycle lighting specialist Busch & Müller (B+M) is launching daytime running headlights for bikes.

Three years ago, B+Ms lighting engineers presented the new LED IQ reflector technology providing an unusual light of 40 Lux and more. This summer B+M has complemented this LED technology with the option of daytime running light.

Serving as daytime running lights and placed just beneath the LED IQ main headlight, four or six (depending on the model) distinctive LED spots are arranged in one or more rows. They only serve to signal other traffic participants. This signalling function cannot be fulfilled by regular modern headlights, as their light beam is positioned on the road with a clearly defined light/darkness at the uppermost edge of the light field.

B+M has patented its new system requiring high grade LEDs and a hub dynamo and called it ‘LICHT24’. It has a day and a night mode, and depending on external lighting conditions, the headlight switches between the two modes automatically. LICHT24 is available in three different Lumotec IQ headlight models, the Fly RT, the Cyo RT and the Cyo T.
