Bike Production Rising Again in Spain

MADRID, Spain – After three years of grim decline the Spanish Ministry of Industry is now reporting a serious recovery of the country’s bicycle industry. From 2007 up to the end of 2009, bike production in Spain dropped by 40%. However, during the first six months of this year production is back on track.

The data from the Ministry of Industry shows that in the first half of 2010 a total of 195,530 bicycles were produced in Spain; up 23.6% on the 158,221 bikes produced in the first six months of 2009.

According to the Ministry of Industry the total production value in this period amounted 31.30 million euro, an increase of 17% compared to the value of the same period in 2009. In the whole year of 2009 the production value of bicycles in Spain dropped by 11.9% and 12.3% in units compared to 2008. The total number of bicycles made in Spain in 2009 was 333,472 with a total value of 55.63 million euro.
