Last summer the Korean company Midas Tires launched a new type of solid bicycle tire that can’t be punctured and requires no maintenance. “There had been many brands who try to make absolute no-puncture tires but our product has some unique features”, says a Midas Tire spokesman.

“The weight of our tires is relatively low compared with other no-puncture tires. Some of our models, like the Musai and the Nymph weight even less than a normal air tire. We also provide 13 different colors. Those colors don’t affect the tire’s properties since they are not made of rubber. This is a big difference from normal rubber tires. The performance of our tires is a little bit less than normal air tires but most cyclists won’t feel the difference. Another important merit of our tires is that there is no problem mounting them on any clincher rim type. You don’t need to use special rims of wheel sets.”

After the initial introduction in Korea last summer and sale to bicycle shops nationwide, Midas Tires started to build an international distribution network. The company expects to initiate export as of 2012.
