Grofa GM Takes Stake in Bike Action
BAD CAMBERG/RODGAU, Germany – Christoph Goebel (photo) – MD at Grofa GmbH; one of the country’s bigger importer – wholesalers – took a stake in Rocky Mountain and RaceFace distributor BikeAction recently. Will this lead to the same scenario as in 2011 when he acquired shares in Thaler Sports; a company he eventually took over?
Bike Action Fahrradhandelsgesellschaft mbH was founded by Dirk and Simone Janz in 1988. “The company started to distribute the Rocky Mountain brand in Germany in 1989. This was in 1994 followed with the distribution of the later troubled but re-started second Canadian brand; RaceFace. The in Rodgau, Germany located company also distributes Evoc Sports GmbH products (bags and protectors).
Grofa, Thaler and BikeAction
According to Goebel both companies – Thaler Sports as well as BikeAction – will strengthen Grofa’s existing portfolio (among others Bell, Easton, Giro, Look, Park Tool). Thaler Sports has its own bike apparel brand Protective and is distributing Hydrapak, Kask, Lake, among others. BikeAction brings, next to its portfolio, a detailed marketing and event know-how. Grofa and BikeAction are relying on synergy benefits. Dirk Janz will remain as GM at Bike Action while no changes it his staff are expected.
