Décathlon: 600 Stores in EU & 7 billion in Sales

VILLENEUVE D’ASCQ, France – Last year Décathlon opened 34 stores in the EU countries bringing the chain’s total to 597 in Europe. This 6% growth was almost the same as the 7.2% increase in Décathlon’s sales that amounted €7 billion in 2012.

Décathlon’s owner, the Oxylane group, operated a total of 736 stores worldwide; 57 more than a year earlier. In particular in China the chain expanded on a big scale with 15 store openings bringing the total to 54 in the People’s Republic.

Spain, Italy and Poland
After France, Décathlon’s home market where it makes close to 45% of its total turnover, the chain operates most of its stores in Spain (97), Italy (85) and Poland (29). Also in what used to be difficult markets for Décathlon, Germany and the Netherlands – the company is expanding. By the end of 2012 it operated 18 stores in Germany and 3 in the Netherlands.
