Biggest Bike Bridge in Europe Opened
ZOETERMEER, The Netherlands – The biggest bike bridge ever constructed in Europe has recently been officially opened. It’s located – of course – in Holland as this is the country where everybody cycles. And also the country where (local) governments invest big money in cycling infrastructure. The biggest bike bridge cost 3.2 million euro (4.4m US dollar).
The city council of Zoetermeer, the city where on its outskirts this bike bridge is located, didn’t put up these millions alone. The EU regional development fund subsidized it substantially. The bridge links several cities in the Western and most populated part of the country. It offers cyclist a ‘freeway’ connection in that region of Holland.
