The Tianjin Lishen Battery Joint-Stock Co. Ltd. ranks as the number 5 Lithium battery maker in the world and is the biggest in China. The company has a strategy which is solely focused on making high-end Lithium batteries. Since the company’s start in the late nineties Lishen is producing them. Since then the application scope of these batteries expanded dramatically, for instance in all kinds of portable devices.

18650 cell batteries

For electric vehicles like e-bikes Lishen produces cylindrical 18650 cell batteries. The company started making this kind of Li-Ion batteries already in 1999, and started supplying domestic e-bike makers in 2005. Production targeted to other e-vehicles started in 2008. Currently Lishen is supplying all Chinese e-bike makers. In 2010 the company started targeting e-bike and e-scooters companies in Europe for selling their batteries.

Currently Lishen is not only supplying e-bike manufacturers, but is also delivering its 18650 cells to Europe’s leading battery supplier that assembles them according to specification in ready-to-use battery-packs to OEMs.

Increased sales service in Europe

New in the company’s sales effort is that, as Executive Vice President Richard Liang says: “Lishen is looking to establish cooperation with drive system suppliers for integrating our batteries into their offerings. Next to that we are increasing our after sales service efforts in Europe. Currently we have a branch office in Zoetermeer, The Netherlands. Next to this office we will be opening an after sales service centre targeted to e-bikes in Germany. This is to take place later this year or by the latest next year.”

And there’s more in the pipeline, in particular for Europe. Lishen is in the process of setting up a warehouse in Germany. This is for saving lead time and financing costs for the company’s biggest customers. This August Lishen will exhibit at Eurobike again; at booth ZH-216.

More on Lishen Battery is in Bike Europe’s June – July edition which will be available at bike-eu.com July 1.
