Hero Cycles Sets Up Global Design Center in UK
LUDHIANA, India – Hero Cycles has announced to set up a high-tech global design center in Manchester, UK. Here India’s biggest in bikes is to develop its next generation bicycle designs and technologies. The European design center is part of Hero’s strategy to expand globally in the next year’s.
The announcement on the UK design center follows after a high-level team from Hero Cycles visited the UK. This took place some weeks ago and during this visit the location of Hero’s global design center was finalized.
Adding value to Hero’s bikes
Bike Europe reported earlier on Hero Cycle’s eagerness for the set-up of such a design center. This was then related to the take-over announcement of bike maker BSH in Sri Lanka. That take-over took place last March and was Hero’s 3rd acquisition in about one year. Earlier the company bought India based premium bicycle brand Firefox followed by UK based Avocet. These acquisitions are part of Hero Cycles’ ambition to expand its global footprint as well as to add value to its products.
‘Home of British Cycling’
Hero’s Cycles’ global design center is located in the UK as this is Europe’s second largest market for bicycles with 3.5 million units sold in 2015, only behind Germany. The facility will be set-up near the ‘National Cycling Centre’ in Manchester which is also referred to as the ‘Home of British Cycling’. Here some of the world’s best athletes train every day.
Revolution at Hero Cycles
The center is to be operational in the first quarter of 2017. Here work is done on research, innovation and design to upgrade Hero’s offering with an eye on the global market.
Hero Cycles Ltd MD Pankaj Munjal said, “We are setting on a course of innovation and design revolution at Hero Cycles. This by harnessing some of the best minds in the field at the Global Design Center. It’s to improve our bicycle technology, design and quality ranging from bikes for mass consumption to hi-end sports & luxury bikes.”
Manufacturing in India and Sri Lanka
The design center is to bolster Hero’s efforts to expand its presence and penetration in new markets and in particular the hi-end European market. The center will also do prototyping and testing for bikes which will then be manufactured in Hero Cycles’ manufacturing plants in India and Sri Lanka.
