Tubus Acquires Next Mudguard Maker to Expand its Offering
MÜNSTER, Gemany – Known for the manufacturing of bicycle carriers tubus announced today it acquired all shares of the Italian ‘sandwich’ mudguard production of Orion. “The family-owned company Orion which has been producing mudguards for three generations will be fully integrated in the tubus business group,” said tubus CEO Peter Ronge.
“Following our take-over of the production of Wingee mudguards from Bernd Herkelmann last year November, as well as our 33% participation in the bicycle bag manufacturer Becatex and our own brand racktime, Orion fits very well in our product range,” added Ronge. “We can now offer a complete portfolio with perfect modules consisting of carriers, lights and mudguards.”
‘Difficult to find partners’
For tubus the acquisition strategy seems to be a necessity to reach its long term goals. “Our efforts to cooperate with mudguard manufacturers were not successful, therefore we were looking for other options,” explains CEO Peter Ronge motivating the takeover the Italian company.
Smooth transition of the production
The production of Orion will be moved from Italy to the German city of Münster in the next few days. “We want to make sure that all previous Orion employees will find a new position. Orion’s family tradition is not ending though, its production managers will move from Italy to Münster to continue the production in Germany. Therefore we expect a smooth transition of the production.”
