African – European Union Summit Puts Spotlight on Bamboo Bikes
ABIDJAN, Côte d’Ivoire – While Africa’s and Europe’s political leaders gathered in Abidjan for the 5th Summit, the Ghanaian bamboo bicycle manufacturer Boomers International founded by Kwabena Danso was put in the spotlight. He is taken as a successful example of EU funding story.
At the conference in Abidjan, EU President Juncker said “What happens in Africa matters for Europe, and what happens in Europe matters for Africa. Our partnership is an investment in our shared future. It is a partnership of equals in which we support each other, help each other to prosper and make the world a safer, more stable and more sustainable place to live.”
EU multi billion investment program
The bamboo bicycle factory Booomers International is one the successful project supported by the European Union and part of the EU multi billion investment program in Africa’s economies. Between 2014 and 2020 the EU will invest a total of 31 billion euro “to tackle the common challenges of today, from investing in youth, creating sustainable development and to boost investment in the African continent.”
