“Key factors were the launch of GT,” stated a recent release. “Halfords enjoys increasing credibility with higher spending cycle enthusiasts.” Other reasons named for the strong performance is the greater scale and the proliferation of its own brands, which accounted for 47% of the retailer’s total sales.
The retailer also plans to invest approximately GBP21 million (US$31.5mn) in transforming many of its stores into IBD-style outlets in the coming year. Halfords UK has a total of 410 stores, 317 of which are superstores. According to the report, about 20 new stores will open this year. (JW)
