MAINHAUSEN/VERL, Germany (August 25) – Struggling German dealer cooperative BICO announces a close cooperation with Ariston-Nord-West-Ring -anwr-group in short-, parent company of Germany’s second largest sporting goods buyers group Sport 2000. BICO hopes this step will help it to overcome its current economic crisis. After finding a mode with one of its house banks BICO was able to re-open its warehouse, which gives the cooperation with Sport 2000 content. According to a press release both groups are thinking about a share involvement into each other “that will give new impulses to the bicycle market”.
For many BICO members, the cooperation with Anwr/Sport 2000 comes as a sign of provisional continuity for BICO. Both parties haven’t signed any contracts yet, but have expressed their intent. BICO is pleased to have found a strong partner who can give support in the fields of back office and marketing.
The cooperation between both parties doesn’t come out of the blue. Former BICO GM Conrad Greif had already been brainstorming about a closer cooperation between BICO and Sport 2000 in the run-up towards the new warehouse BICO built last year in Verl and with an eye on possible future growth outside Germany. The cooperation also makes sense because the Deutsche Zentralregulierungsbank DZB (controlled by anwr-group) is specialized in centralized payment systems for dealer cooperatives. DZB is not only overlooking centralized payments of anwr-members like as Sport 2000 but also for BICO, and others. Anwr itself is the largest European buyers group for shoe retailers.(JB)
