Decathlon Sets Up Headquarter in Central Taiwan

TAIPEI, Taiwan – Decathlon has signed a contract with the Taichung city government to establish a headquarter in Taiwan. According to newspaper reports, the world’s second largest sporting goods retailer plans to invest about US$400 million (€296 mn); not only in the new HQ and warehouse, but also in the opening of 10 to 12 large-scale department stores in the next five years in Taiwan.

Decathlon’s sourcing in Taiwan has been growing over the years. In 2010, the company purchased for about US$110 million (€81.4 mn) from Taiwan and in 2011 the purchasing amount is projected to reach US$130 million (€96.2 mn). According to the newspaper report the 130 million accounts for about 3% of the global purchasing of Decathlon. There are over one hundred Taiwanese makers supplying the sporting goods retailer.

Decathlon, part of the Oxylane Group, is the largest sporting goods retailer in Europe that currently operates about 490 stores in 17 European countries as well as in South America and Asia. The company’s annual revenue is approximately US$7.66 billion (€5.66 bn).
