ECF Needs Letters of Support from Industry to Raise Millions for Cycling Commuting

BRUSSELS, Belgium – The European Cyclists’ Federation (ECF) is currently working on an EU funding proposal to pay for a major expansion in cycle commuting initiatives. It could bring nearly € 2 million into cycling if successful and involves 10 countries collaborating. ECF is a lead partner along with a successful EU projects agency in Austria called FGM Amor.

The ECF proposal will do two things:
1. It will deliver a lot more cyclists through practical actions.
2. It will demonstrate to local and national governments the benefit of targeting specific trip types in a focussed way so it will support our advocacy.

Show your commitment

The ECF further states: “This is a very competitive tender so what we need is some letters of support from the industry, industry media and allied sectors that show your commitment to commuter cycling as a segment of the market, and to the work of ECF and its partners.

This can be generic (click here for a copy) or you can say something specific about your commitment to the cycle commuting market. It would really help us if you could take the wording in the template and put it on to your letterhead and return to Kevin Mayne [k.mayne@ecf.com] as a PDF by Monday 23rd April. No financial contribution is needed.

From millions to billions

“All this is about the last round of funding under the Intelligent Energy Programme which has existed since 2003. By 2014 the EU will have reviewed all its budgets and funding programmes. ECF is at the forefront of lobbying to increase the presence of cycling in all the revisions, If successful this could increase funding from millions to billions of euro.”
