ZIV Adds 45 km/h E-Bike Components to Replacement Guidelines
BERLIN, Germany – To provide an insight for retailers on what’s permitted or not when exchanging CE approved 25 km/h e-bike components in their workshops, the German industry associations agreed on an uniform guideline in 2015. This list is now also available for 45 km/h speed pedelecs as well.
“The guideline is intended to clarify what cyclists and workshops are allowed to change on 45 km/h speed pedelecs, and for which parts they must obtain the approval of the speed pedelec manufacturer and/or the supplier of the electronic drive system,” says the German industry association ZIV in a statement.
Speed e-bikes classified as motor vehicles
The component replacement list includes all speed pedelecs with pedal supported power of up to 45 km/h, which are classified as motor vehicles and which comply with the EU Directive 2002/24/E6 or the EU Regulation No. 168/2013.
The guideline is composed in close cooperation between the Federal Association for German Two-Wheel Mechanics (BIV), TÜV Rheinland, velotech.de, the Zedler Institute, the Zweirad Industrie Verband (ZIV) and the dealer association VSF.
