The lobby platform for the bicycle and e-bike industry – Cycling Industry Club – not only had a heartily welcome for Decathlon but also for the other new members. They are: Vittoria, Orbita, Blaze, SENA Technologies, Bikmo, and MOMES. These companies represent parts and bike manufacturing, bike sharing, new connected technologies and financial services in their wide range of products.

Fastest way to growth

Cycling Industry Club’s Tony Grimaldi said at the welcome party which also featured as the annual Advocay Summit “I am so pleased with the participation of these ambitious companies who know that the fastest way for us all to grow is to influence public authorities at all levels to support cycling, and to reach out to new cyclists through exciting new technologies. Supporting the advocacy work of ECF and its members is essential for the health of our industry”.

‘Decathlon dreams of changing cities’

Speaking for Decathlon, Herman van Beveren, head of BTWIN Urban Biking said “City biking is an excellent way to do your daily dose of sports. It’s great for your health, you have less stress, you are always on time, you save a lot of money and it’s very good for the environment. With our team we dream of changing cities where most of the daily trips will be done by bike. Cities will be quieter and healthier to live. We think that we should work all together to encourage Europe for a way better biking environment. Therefore we want to be in.”

Vittoria: joining is logical step

René Timmermans, CEO of Vittoria EMEA, echoed those comments “As a globally operating organization we are a driving force in innovation and product quality. Globalization is not the monopoly of big companies, but it does come with great responsibilities. Vittoria certainly recognizes the importance of increased awareness and appreciation for cycling, whether that is in relation to urban mobility, health, sports or simple fun. Membership of ECF’s Cycling Industry Club is a logical step to join the like-minded.”

New CIC projects

Adding to the excitement of new members, ECF announced that beyond ongoing advocacy for policy change and investment in cycling “We are developing 3 major new technology-led projects for 2018 which will include the world’s biggest ever real-time connected cycling demonstration in Copenhagen later in the year.”
