Shimano identified a potential safety issue with respect to their mechanical disc brake calipers for road racing bikes which are sold after February 2012. So far, no injuries are reported.

The voluntary recall includes the BR-CX75, BR-R515 and BR-R315 calipers. Shimano will replace the brake calipers with new improved ones.

The readjustment of worn brake pads in the case of the brake calipers concerned should be performed by the bicycle dealer. However, it might occur that consumers and dealers adjust the brake pads incorrectly. In that case the braking force is more difficult to control and the brake performance can be influenced.

According to Shimano this safety issue no longer exists with the improved brake calipers. For more information check: http://cycle.shimano-eu.com
