Red-Motion Recalls Handlebars

ST JEAN DE SOUDAIN, France – Red Motion issued a voluntary recall of its BAM City handlebars. According to Red Motion, “the handlebars pose a risk of breakage despite its compliance with current ISO 4210 standard for city/trekking bicycles.”

The problems with the handlebars of the French supplier were found during a regular quality and safety tests. “It specifically concerns the first version of the BAM City handlebar sold from May 2015 to June 2017,” says Red Motion CEO Nicolas Seynaeve. “The first version of the BAM City can pose of breakage and cause serious accidents which can lead to death. For precautionary reasons we ask to all owners the BAM City first version to stop using it immediately.”

Made in France

These handlebars are 100 % made in France and the recall involves approximately 2,100 units.
“The second version of the BAM City delivered from 1st July 2017 is not included in this recall. For this second version we already stepped up the quality procedures and passed the ‘Advanced’ standard of the well-known German institute Zedler,” adds Seynaeve.

OEM specification

This handlebar has also been specified on different models by several OEMs including the Nova of Neomov and both the Urban 11S and Cross Lite of Bulls. The handlebar was offered as an option by Idworx, Tour Terrain, Hilite and Quantor. Anyone who selected the recalled handlebar can contact its dealer or the manufacturer for replacement as soon as possible.

The first version of the BAM City can be recognized by these criteria:

– BAM City with white inserts: these are all included in this recall.
– BAM City with black insert: only when it comes with a circle on the front face of the stem mounting area (see photo) the handlebar is included in the recall.
