MILAN, Italy (October 28th) - The ANCMA Anti-Dumping Committee is stepping-up its efforts to sway important decision makers in the direction of maintaining the EU Anti-Dumping duties on Chinese bicycles and parts. The ANCMA is the Italian Association for the bicycle and motorcycle industry. One of the convincing factors they use is the recent demise of the American bike industry and the near-death of the Japanese due to the flooding of these markets with ultra cheap Chinese made bicycles. The committee has received positive reactions from several representatives of the Italian government on their plans to keep the over 30% dumping duties instated. They are due to be lifted July 2005. The decision was a logical one for the Italian officials; as the largest bike exporting country within the EU (close to 1.5 million units in 2002) Italy has a lot to loose to the Chinese imports. ANCMA has also announced that they are preparing a similar campaign to influence the authorities of all the EU member states who will be involved in the eventual decision. (MH)
