HO CHI MIN City, Vietnam (January 30th) - Vietnam’s export rubber prices have bounced to a 10 month high, pushing export values up while leaving domestic tyre producers deflated. Export rubber has peaked at US$140 per ton, earning Vietnam $274 in 2003.
Vietnam General Rubber Corporation (Geruco), the leading State-run rubber company, attributed the price hike to the recovery of the world’s leading auto manufacturers – the US, Japan and China – since the Iraq war. The corporation also pointed to the 200,000 tonnes of rubber exported to China, double the usual figure. Geruco said rubber latex imported by China alone has jumped 46%. (MH)
