Ha Noi, Vietnam (February 17th) - Ha Noi's industrial production soared 25% last year over 2002 on the back of sharp rises at foreign - and municipal-owned firms, a top city official told a meeting on Thursday. The strong performance by the city-owned enterprises - a 30% output growth - is because of a surge in certain sectors. Bicycles and motorbikes grew 65%, machinery manufacturing 40%, rubber products 37%. The companies posted combined revenues of (US$138 million), an 28% increase over 2002. Of the figure, US$58 million came from exports. Among the firms doing well were Xuan Hoa Company, Thang Long Metalware, October 10 Textile, Viet Tiep Lock, Ha Noi Plastics Company and Dong Da Bicycle and Motorbike.(MH)
