PARIS, France (April 29) - According to a press release from the European Bicycle Manufacturers Association (EBMA), the European Commission will announce today in its EU Official Journal that it will investigate dumping complaints against Vietnam and China. These complaints were recently filed by the European Bicycle Manufacturers Association (EBMA). In its press release the EBMA states that it has prepared over the last many months a detailed complaint on injurious dumping from bicycle exporters in Vietnam. "Parallel to this we have put together a detailed request for an interim review of the 1993 anti-dumping measures on bicycles from the People's Republic of China, looking for a substantial increase in duties. The European Commission has accepted to investigate both complaints and this is announced on the 29th April 2004 in the EU Official Journal (almost certainly No.C. 103)," says the EBMA. On the websites of the European Union this edition of the Official Journal was not yet published. The EBMA statement also says: "The implants of Taiwanese industry to low-wage Vietnam (wages lower than China ) - the subsidies received - have but one main objective which is the unfair penetration of the European bicycle market and injury to EU bicycle producers. This has to be investigated as does the resurgence of Chinese bicycle imports at ridiculously low prices." (JO)
