MAARSSEN, Netherlands (May 13) – The latest battle in the German-bike-price war is ALDI’s new offering. At just € 299 a fully equipped, and full suspension MTB or Trekking bike is appealing to some – for us in the business the fact hat the bikes are not built at ALDI’s usual supplier Mifa but at competitor Biria/Bike Systems is bigger news. Also the specs show a departure from the usual – no Shimano to lure the customers to these supermarket bikes – that ‘honour’ is now reserved for SRAM. A combination of X-7 and X-9 graces the new ALDI blockbuster – and with some 50.000 units on order this might be quite a pleasing change for SRAM. Brand appeal contra availability – we’ll have see which counts more.(MH) Source: SazBike
