MAARSSEN, Netherlands (August 3) – Schwinn is doing sterling business with its retro styled Sting-Ray – better than anyone could expect. Bikes are being bought at Wal-Mart by IBD’s who then sell them to the punters – fully assembled mind. This is somewhat of a weird situation of course, but it illustrates the popularity of the bike. But there are more choppers-with-no-engine on offer: Nirve (www.nirve.com) makes a large range of Easy Rider inspired bikes, now even including a version in JD-tractor colours. The ideal transport for the real country boy...whether the range includes harvesting equipment to be attached to the bike is unclear... (MH)
