HO CHI MIN CITY, Vietnam (August 11) – According to a local newspaper, the VietnameseTrade Ministry in collaboration with the Vietnam Motorbike and Bicycle Association will help nine Vietnamese businesses in the settlement of the bicycle dumping case that is insitigated by the European Commission. Documents supplied by the Vietnamese side show that Vietnamese businesses conduct business based on the autonomy of production, without any subsidies from the State. They are allowed to freely compete on domestic and international markets. Vietnam has developed a market economy, in which businesses are able to decide their production cost and product selling prices according to market rules. The Trade Ministry has sent note to the EC and the EU mission in Vietnam affirming that the Vietnamese government does not intervene into production and business activities of the enterprises. (MH)
