HA NOI, Vietnam (November 2) – During the first eight months of 2004 Vietnam exported for US$ 30 million in bicycles and bicycle parts to Germany. When the average value is estimated at about FOB US$ 100; about 300,000 bicycles were exported to Germany in the January – August 2004 period. In 2003 the EU 15 member states imported a total of 1,371,372 bicycles from Vietnam at an average value of € 72.36.
Major industrial products which recorded high production increases in the past ten months included bicycles, motorcycles, natural gas, chemical fertiliser, and garments. Industrial production increased 15.5% compared to the past ten months of 2004, according to Vietnam’s General Statistics Office. The country’ export increased 28.1%. Export staples registering high increases were wooden furniture, bicycles, coal, tea, computers and cashew nuts. (MH)
