BRUSSELS, Belgium-According to Eddie Eccleston, vice president of COLIBI, the press release issued on 3 february by Brian Montgomery about his standing down as COLIBI president was not correct. Montgomery's statement reads: "Today there is a strong division of opinion within COLIBI both for and against the fact that the COLIBI President is also the Chairman of the European Bicycle Manufacturers Association (EBMA). The attitude of certain members who do not agree with the dual presidencies is in essence a position against the EBMA role in monitoring imports and taking action when appropiate. This is a relatively new phenomenon and reflects the growing influence of importers in the membership." As vice president of COLIBI Eddie Ecclestone said about Brian Montgomery's statement: "It is not correct in the sense that Mr. Montgomery hints with wording as 'monitoring imports and taking action when appropiate' at dumping actions. We, that is COLIBI, are not against dumping actions when they are approiate like the one against complete bikes imported from China. As COLIBI members we strongly support this dumping action. What the COLIBI members objected about and what has lead to the standing down of Mr. Montgomery, is his dual presidency of COLIBI and EBMA. The obvious conflict of interest that his dual presidencies brings about, was an issue that according to the COLIBI members had to stop."
