ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (June 7) – The manufacturing sector in Pakistan recorded broad based growth of 12.5 % against a target of 10.2 %. The overall manufacturing sector continued to maintain its growth momentum during the current fiscal year. Large-scale manufacturing registered an impressive growth of 15.4 % in the current fiscal year against a target of 12.2%.
The main contributors to this growth of 15.4% in July-March 2004-05 are the automobile group (30.1%) and engineering goods group (11.3 %). In the automovite sector, the production of four-wheeled vehicles saw a 26.1% rise.
But the two-wheeler sector is the biggest grower in Pakistan: bicycle manufacturing recorded a 14.8% plus, while the motorcycle makers saw their production almost double, with 47.6 %. The new EU anti-dumping legislation on China and Vietnam might have an even further positive effect on the production numbers of bicycles in Pakistan.
