KARLSTEIN, Germany (Oct 25) - On November 15, 2005, ExtraEnergy will host a seminar on Lithium Batteries. Experts from the battery industry will tackle the current No.1 discussion topic: Safety of Lithium batteries and the UN transport regulations for dangerous goods. The UN classifies Lithium batteries as dangerous goods. This results in high cost and bureaucratic efforts to ship such batteries correctly according to the rules. Since Lithium batteries provide clear advantages for LEVs (less weight, more range), they are used in an increasing number of vehicles. But the UN transport regulations are an obstacle. The goal of this one-day seminar is to analyze what these rules exactly are and provide hands-on solutions on how to deal with and possibly change the flat classification of Lithium batteries as dangerous freights. Co-organizers of the congress are ZIV (German Two-wheeler Industry Association) and BMZ (Batterien-Montage-Zentrum). The seminar will be held at the BMZ facility in Karlstein close to Frankfurt, Germany. Here, the ExtraEnergy laboratory for the battery safety test is located, too. Tours through both, the BMZ battery assembly factory and the safety test laboratory will be offered during the event. For application details and hotel recommendations please see www.ExtraEnergy.org.
