A&J Europe to Assemble Bikes in Wales
NEWTOWN, UK (17 March 2000)--A&J Europe Bicycle Manufacturing Ltd., the newly formed subsidiary of A&J Ent. Co. Ltd. of Taiwan, is setting up a factory in Newtown, Wales (UK) to assemble bicycles for distribution in the European market.
The factory will begin production in May and will supply distributors and
major retailers throughout Europe. The company already has its first customer: Moore Large & Co. Ltd. of Derby, England. "Our main intention is to switch bicycle production from Taiwan to Europe, to get closer to one of our major markets," says managing director Jon Edwards (40), who is a former sales director at Moore Large & Co. Ltd. The new factory called for an investment of approximately GBP750,000 (US$1.177mn;EUR1.22mn) and is supported by the Welsh Development Agency. (JW)
