BRUSSELS, Belgium (Dec 6) - On 14 February 2006 the two European associations organize a Congress in Brussels on the new European safety standards for bicycles and their possible and certain effects on the bicycle business. The first 4 bicycle standards – City and Trekking Bicycles, Mountain Bicycles, Racing Bicycles and Children bicycles – will be finalized early 2006. The new standards are destined to have a big effect in the bicycle business; in particular for product liability.
COLIBI (the European association representing the European Bicycle Industry) and COLIPED (the Association of the European Two-wheeler Parts & Accessories' Industry) are joining forces to provide the industry with answers on questions like: Do you know what the standards are all about? What will be their impact on your business? Do you know that the new European standards will automatically replace all existing, national standards? Have you considered their effect in possible product liability cases? What about insurance ? How can you avoid risks, once the new standards apply? And which product information do you have to provide in case any of your products is subject to recall?
With time getting short for the bike industry to prepare for the new CEN standards to come into effect; for COLIBI and COLIPED it’s ample cause to
organize a Congress in Brussels. This Congress will be held on 14 February 2006 and will provide bike and component makers; importers; distributors; retailers and all others active in the bike business all information on the new CEN standards.
During the Congress three experts will elaborate on three major issues:
a) the new EN (CEN) standards;
b) the General Product Safety Directive & product liability;
c) product liability insurance.
After the presentation of the three experts, the Congress will continue with a debate which will provide you with the possibility to put your own questions to the experts.
Participation fees:
- € 100.-- (members of COLIBI-COLIPED and their national members)
- € 150.-- (non-members)
