SVAY RIENG, Cambodia (Dec 6)- A&J Worldwide group are in the final stages of completing the first bicycle factory to export bicycles from Cambodia, and production has now begun. A&J subsidiary Atlantic Cycle Co. Ltd. in Svay Rieng province will export bicycles to Europe, Canada, Japan, Norway and the USA.
Because of the current 34.5% anti-dumping duties on bicycles exported from Vietnam, A&J purchased land in Cambodia and began construction in May this year. The new Cambodian plant is the biggest of all the A&J factories at some 200,000 sq ft, with room for expansion. It has 4 miles (6,000 metres) of overhead line. And up to date machinery for wheel building and painting. There are 3 production lines providing capacity for around 1 million bikes per year. Next to complete bicycles, Atlantic Cycle will also produce alloy frames. For that a brand new alloy frame factory is currently being set up. Production start is planned for May 2006. (JO)
