MILAN, Italy – Last week this website reported that there are strong rumours going round about an anti-dumping investigation on Chinese made bicycle saddles that are imported into the EU. That such a dumping complaint is filed at the European Commission has been confirmed today by Pietro Nigrelli, Chairman of the European Saddle Makers Association (ESMA). Nigrelli is also general secretary of the bicycle division of ANCMA, the Italian industry association.
Nigrelli said: “We have made an official presentation about the complaint to the European Commission. At this moment the complaint only involves saddles for bicycles made in China and not those made in Taiwan. We expect that in the first week of April the European Commission will let us know if the complaint is valid or not and that an official investigation by the European Commission will take place.”
Nigrelli didn’t want to comment on who the ESMA members are: “At this moment this is a very delicate matter and the members of our association do not want to have this made public. However, I can say that we have a special understanding with a lot of saddle makers in Europe for this case .”
