MAARSSEN, Netherlands – Yesterday, we reported on an alleged surprise check by EU inspectors at the Polish Arkus bike factory. The charges would have been that anti-dumping exempt parts, destined for bike production, were sold off to compensate for slow sales. This would have been a violation of the EU procedures, and was said to have resulted in a massive €1 million fine. This morning, Bike Europe was contacted by Matt Biela, export manager at Arkus who had been inundated by phone calls about this news. He has assured us that the story is untrue – that there have been no EU inspectors at Arkus, nor have they received any fines whatsoever, and they have not, nor intent to act against the EU rules. We will investigate further into this matter, and are currently awaiting a statement by Arkus, Poland. More to follow shortly. (MH)
