Decathlon Starts Wholesale Activities
VILLENEUVE D’ASCQ, France – Decathlon recently started wholesale activities in France as a feasibility test. Under the label Sport-Dispo, Europe’s biggest sporting goods chain and biggest bicycle seller, is offering a selected range of products mainly to small regional retailchains in France that are located in areas where there’s no Decathlon store. This was recently reported by the trade publication for the sporting goods sector; ‘Sporting Goods Intelligence’.
This publication also reported that Decathlon opened the largest sporting goods store in Russia. It is located on the Moscow ring, near an Auchan Hypermarket and a Leroy Merlin mega-store. Decathlon, Auchan and Leroy Merlin belong to the same family holding company. Despite initial delivery problems and the lack of a full scale introduction campaign, the new Moscow Decathlon outlet that has a 150 staff, is reported to score more that satisfactory sales. Before the end of this year Decathlon is to open its second Moscow (and Russian) store which is again located near an Auchan Hypermarket. The sporting goods giant claims that a further expansion in Russia largely depends on the sales results of the two Moscow stores.
