HCM CITY, Vietnam - Vietnam's export turnover in the first seven months of 2006 exceeded US$22.3 billion, an increase of 25.7% over the same period last year, in which crude oil, garments, footwear, aquatic products, timber products and rice were the country's key staples, said the Ministry of Trade.
By the end of July, rice exports reached 3.3 million tonnes, worth US $905 million, a decrease of 5%, both in quantity and value, compared with the same period last year.
Coffee export turnover remained at US $652 million, an increase of nearly 30%, although the export quantity was only 567,000 tonnes, a decrease of 13% compared with the same period last year. This was due to a rise of 40% in the world's coffee price over 2005.
Bicycle and spare part exports continued to be affected by the anti-dumping lawsuit being brought in the European Union and as the result, its export value was only US $79 million, a decrease of 20%.
