SANGERHAUSEN, Germany - Mifa recently appointed former Cycleurope Key Account Commercial Manager Yves Salaun as Export Manager. At the German mass market bike supplier the native Frenchman will be responsible for the entire export business but with a strong focus on France that is currently Mifa’s number one export market. The export share on Mifa’s 2005 sales was only 5.7%. Mifa wants to increase its export significantly on the EU markets.
Next to the new export manager, the Mitteldeutsche Fahrradwerke AG – Mifa in short – also started the construction of a new logistics center at the company headquarters in Sangerhausen. The new state-of-the-art facility is planned to be ready in the first quarter of 2007. The new hall will include a modern and fully automated storage system. It will also increase stock capacity to more than 350,000 bicycles. According to Mifa chairman Peter Wicht, the new automatic system will reduce costs: “Due to the fact that we have to deliver huge amounts of bicycles over short periods to our customers, just-in-time production was not possible. Bicycles have to be moved by hand from here to there. The new system makes us more flexible.” And: it will reduce costs significantly. Again Wicht: “It’s an important step in our plan to make Mifa one of Europe’s most important bicycle producers.” (JB)
