ZABBAR, Malta - Around 3,000 bicycles and motorbikes yesterday made their way to Zabbar for the annual pilgrimage organised on the occasion of the village feast.
The traditional pilgrimage, which was first organised in 1951, attracted more than 2,000 bicycles and around 800 motorbikes, Tarcisio Magri, the secretary of the organising committee, said. Magri pointed out that the religious pilgrimage was not a race; it was not an issue of who came first or last. There was a lot of enthusiasm for the event and this year there were even a number of girls on their bicycles, he said. The pilgrimage was first organised on the occasion of Pope Pius XII declaring Our Lady of Graces of Catellaccio, Italy, the patron of cyclists.
