NUNSPEET, The Netherlands – Next Friday, October 27, after a period of 5 years the anti-dumping case for Japanese internal hub gears will expire. As from this date the anti-dumping duty of 11.3% does not apply anymore for internal hub gears imported from Japan. This was announced in the Official EU Journal dated October 21, 2006.
With the announcement in the Official Journal, all hubs custom cleared after October 26, 2006 will only be subject to the regular 4.7% import duty on bicycle parts. The dumping duty will no longer apply for the following by Shimano in Japan produced items:
- 8 speed hubs with coaster brake: SG-8C20, SG-8C45,
- 8 speed hubs for roller brake: SG-8R20, SG-8R25, SG-8R45,
- 8 speed hub from the Alfine series: SG-S500,
- 7 speed hub for roller brake: SG-7R46,
- wheels with internal hub gear: WH-8R25, WH-S500.
- 3-speed hub for roller brake: SG-3R40
- Intego hubs IFC530
In a joint statement Satoshi Yuasa, Shimano Inc. Vice President Bicycle Component Sales and Frank Peiffer, Managing Director Shimano Europe, comment: “Shimano is very pleased to be able to announce this and welcomes a fair competition between internal hub gears of Japanese and European origin. Furthermore we would like to emphasize our continuous commitment and contribution to a further development of the European internal hub gear market.”
