Rumour of the Week: Decathlon in China
That Decathlon is about to start the production of bicycles in China, is more than a rumour. It’s not officially announced by the biggest bicycle seller in Europe with an estimated 2005 of over 2 million units, but it has been confirmed now to Bike Europe from several industry insiders. The sporting goods chain store is about to start production in the Shanghai area. Therewith Decathlon is turning into a manufacturer instead of a retailer that is sourcing its products. The new Chinese factory will only make bikes for the Decathlon superstores in China and not for export to Europe.
