New Shop Formula in France: Mondovelo

PARIS, France – Sport 2000 has launched a new bicycle shop formula in France: Mondovélo. The new chain is starting with 10 outlets of which eight are ex-Veloland bikeshops and is aiming at 50 shops in 2010. All Mondovelo shops will have the complete program of three bike brands which are Lapierre, Scott and Giant. Mondovélo aims at both the convinced cyclist, and family commuting. Vrège Jeloyan director of the Mondovélo formula: “Last September, we started from scratch with eight ex-Veloland bikeshops who came to us as a package deal. The owners of the Maurepas Mondovelo for example, were owners of a Veloland store not far from here. We have ten shops at this moment, but we aim at 50 in 2010. About the formula Jeloyan says: “It’s clear we are going to tickle Décathlon in some segments, like the children’s bike, or the citybike. And like you, we also have noticed that Culture Vélo and Bouticycle seem to be on the elitarian side. The average French family doesn’t necessarily go to that type of specialist shop. We are not a franchise company, but we are working on a co-operation pattern. All our outlets are independent, but affiliated to our central organization and under the umbrella of Sport 2000.
