NEW DEHLI, India - Trek has been launched in the Indian market. After dropping its plans to set up a production facility in China, it looks as if the US based bike maker is making a strategic move towards India by Appointing Firefox Bikes as its exclusive distributor in India.
Firefox opened in August 2005 its first Firefox Bike Station in what is to grow into a chain of outlets throughout the vast country. The Firefox bikes are made in Sri Lanka from where they can be exported duty free to Europe. However, Trek’s first objective with this move towards India is to hook up onto the ever increasing demand for stylish and sporty hi-end bikes in the 13 million units India market that is shifting rapidly from the classic black roadster towards more modern bikes. More on Trek's strategic move towards India in Bike Europe’s December edition; publication date December 15.
