IKEA Folding Bikes

LONDON, UK – 9,000 IKEA co-workers in the UK recently received a folding bike as its traditional end-of-year gift. The gift fuelled rumours that are already for some time going around in the bike sector on IKEA’s start in bike sales.

Checking these rumours at IKEA it was stated that the worldwide operating chainstore considers bicycles and bicycle products not as its core business. The IKEA spokesperson in Holland said that also under the IKEA Family range there are no plans whatsoever to start with bikes. However, IKEA is encouraging its co-workers to get on their bikes rather than jump in their cars and to use them to travel to and from local bus or train stations. Also each co-worker will be eligible for 15% subsidised travel tickets to encourage more to use public transport to travel to and from work. The eco-friendly gift choices are part of IKEA’s continued commitment to improve all environmental aspects of its business – and to encourage our co-workers to play their part.
