COLOGNE, Germany – German retail organization ZEG is launching two shop formulas. One of these is Bike Arena; the international formula for bigger shops. Zweirad Experte (Two-wheel Experts) is the formula for smaller shops in Germany. ZEG’s new market approach includes franchising which has everything to do with: “The fact that we have changed from a purchase organization to a full service retail organization that does not only offers its members buying power, but also offers support in marketing, shop automation, training, finance, etc. Bike Arena is the international shop formula for bigger outlets with 2,000 m² of sales surface and over,” says ZEG CEO Georg Honkomp. At this moment there are two Bike Arena shops in the 7 countries where ZEG is active.
Zweirad Experte is the name of the second formula introduced by ZEG. This formula is aimed at shops with less than 1,000 m², and intends to grow into a national chain in Germany. The plans of ZEG foresee in a franchising system for these smaller shops. In an interview with Bike Europe Georg Honkomp said about both formulas: “For Bike Arena we think that these dealers with their big shops necessarily have to operate at such a level of professionalism that they don’t need a franchise system. We have developed these formulas with an eye on the differences between big and small ZEG members.”
