EICMA Invests in Asia

MILAN, Italy - EICMA Spa,  the organizer of the International Bicycle & Motorcycle Industry Trade Show in Milan, will acquire 50% of the company BIKE ASIA Pte Ltd,  which was founded to organize and manage an International Bicycle and Motorcycle Tradeshow in Singapore starting in the Spring of 2008. This announcement was made by Guidalberto Guidi, the President of both the EICMA and the Italian two-wheeler industry association ANCMA. According to the estimates of the Federation of Asian Motorcycle Industry manufacturers, out of the 40 million, two-wheeled motor vehicles that were sold worldwide in 2004, 29 million (85%) were sold in Asia.  Between 2001 and 2006, the rate of increase in the sales of these motor vehicles was registered at 60.6%, compared to only 3% in Europe and 18% in North America. In the countries of the South East Asia, a growing interest for bicycles and motorcycles of high quality and design is starting to emerge.
“Nevertheless”, observed Dr. Guidi, “There is no trade show in Asia that can compare to the large European trade events for Motorcycles and Bicycles.  For an international show of this size, Singapore is the ideal location:  it is situated halfway between India and China, and it is in the heart of South East Asia. Moreover, Singapore has an excellent convention center and it’s per capita income rivals that of the average European citizen.”
According to the business plan of Bike Asia Pte ltd, the International Bicycle and Motorcyle Show in Singapore should not only break even but actually make a profit starting from the first edition of the show.  The spokesmen for Bike Asia ltd. predicts a conservative sales estimate of 10,000 square meters (110,000 square feet) of net exhibit space for the first edition in 2008.
