SRAM Expands Voluntary Recall Force Brakes

AMERSFOORT, The Netherlands - In a Recall Notice dated February 5, SRAM informed its customers that it learned that some Force front road brakes may have faulty titanium mounting bolts. Yesterday the component maker announced that it will expand the Force front brake recall to include the Force labeled rear brakes. SRAM will replace any Force brake caliper assemblies (front and rear) produced within the time frame of 1 June, 2006 to 15 September 2006. The date codes are on the back of the brake caliper. Also calipers that do not carry a date code (early production may not include a date code) must be considered affected. Current date code range: 35T6XXXXXXX to 39T6XXXXXXX (first two digits indicate the week of production, 2006).
The expanded recall is motivated by additional metallurgical analysis coupled with one failed rear mounting bolt. SRAM believes replacing both front and rear brakes at this time is the safest and least intrusive path for its customers. SRAM apologizes for this issue, and the disruption it causes to the market.
