Accell Expands Facility in Hungary

HEERENVEEN, The Netherlands – Accell Group has expanded its facility in Hungary. In fact Accell has doubled that factory in size and with that also in production capacity. About the consequences for the other Accell production facilities in Western Europe Accell’s Chief Operating Officer Jeroen Snijders Blok said: “There are no plans to close down factories in other countries because of the expansion here. What we aim for is to use the expanded capacity in Hungary for future growth."
Accell Group already started in 2002 to produce bikes in Hungary. Accell invested about € 4 million in its Hungarian operation which, as was said at that time: “Would result in substantial cost savings over the coming years as well as provide opportunities to establish positions in the various Eastern European markets in the future.” Since 2002 the production of all German Hercules bikes have been shifted to Hungary. Also all Tunturi and Bavaria branded bikes are assembled there as well as a big part of the Winora bikes. And whenever the production capacity is filled at Accell’s factories in The Netherlands, the overflow is also made in Hungary.
After the initial € 4 million investment, the Accell Group has now spent another € 5 million for the further expansion of its production facility in Hungary. For that money the total floor space was doubled to about 20,000 m²; an ultra modern paint shop has been installed as well as the newest wheelbuilding robots from Holland Mechanics. With all that the production capacity stands now at 300,000 units. During the peak of the season, Accell’s Hunland factory will employ about 300 workers.
