VILLENEUVE D’ASCQ, France - Decathlon is investing about € 8 million in a new logistic platform in Spain. It is the first stage of a project to set up a continental logistic centre of about 48,000 square meters that will open next year at Prat de Llobregat, near Barcelona.
The new distribution centre will supply products to some 15 regional warehouses over Europe. It is supplementing similar facilities in Marseille, France and Antwerp, Belgium. While the new facility will service the whole continent, its location is partially related to the strong development of Decathlon in Spain, where it has become the number 1 sporting goods retailer.
Last year Decathlon reported a sales growth of 21% to € 759.8 million in Spain.
